A NOTE FROM RANDAL
Its been snowing today and we also had some ice. I was working in the
garage this morning and it was very cold. It sure makes me grateful to have
a warm home and heat. Looking outside I couldn’t help but think many people
just aren’t so fortunate.
Donna has been wanting to make a snowman. This time we got about 3-4 inches
of snow and it was enough for her to make a snowman for the first time here
in Virginia. Also, enough snow for her mischievous side to come out when
she pelted me with a snow ball. Of course, I didn’t return fire because of
the gentlemen that I am. 🙂
The snowman looked great until the temperatures rose and he began to melt.
Its funny how much ingenuity goes into making the face, eyes and nose,
basically with whatever you have around the house. Seems the snowman
Today I would ask you to think about all your blessings. I find its hard to
be depressed or saddened if we look at all we have rather than what we don’t
have. Like the snowman perhaps we need to look at what has been given to us
with gratefulness. I am reminded of a quote that has stuck with me through
the years. “When life gives you a bunch of lemons go ahead and make some
Thanks for your continued support and encouragement.
THE ALURE OF LAVENDER
Lavender is an herb well-known and widely used.
This article gives some background on it and some
beautiful photos. It’s not hard to grow your own.
If you’d rather have the benefits without the gardening,
you can use Lavender Oil:
AMAZING FACTS – SKIN
The whole exterior of the body is covered by protective layer, which is
commonly termed as skin. The skin constantly flakes away, to be replaced by
new tissue, once every month. A lifetime of flaking removes 105 pounds of
old skins and sees a thousand outer layers. A square inch of the skin is
made up of 19 million cells, 625 glands for sweat, and 90 glands for oil.
Nineteen feet of intricately woven blood vessels serve the square – inch
area, along with 19000 nerve cells. 65 millions of hairs are there each
populated by tens millions of bacteria and microscopic mites on them. The
outer most layer of skin is termed in medicine as epidermis, which has no
life in it.

AMAZING FACTS – BONES
Compact bones such as the thigh’s femur can support more weight than
granite or reinforced concrete. When pulled end to end-a test called tensile
strength-bone endures forces of 10,000 to 20,000 pounds per square inch,
about the same as pure iron. Squeezed in compression, bone withstands
pressure up to 30,000 pounds per square inch. Yet, to keep from damaging the
fragile human tissue it connects, bone must be lightweight.
The skeleton of a 160-pound body weighs only 29 pounds. The same framework
in steel would be four or five times as heavy. The bones are composed of
densely packed mixture of hard mineral crystals-chiefly calcium and
phosphorous-and fibrous proteins called collagens. As it is the carefully
balanced recipe for bone permits the routine performance of what are in fact
magnificent physical stunts.
An everyday sit-up for instance burdens lower spine with as much as pressure
as a deep-sea divers feel at 570 feet below water. A high jump may load the
femur with some 20,000 pounds of stress upon landing; and the bones of the
feet must suffer body’s weight during each of the 19,000 steps an average
person takes each day.
Keep those bones strong with minerals:

Derived from bone meal and combined with other trace minerals needed, NSP’s
Calcium Plus more easily enters the body to help replenish bone tissue that
is constantly being replaced.
This formula also contains phosphorus, the second most abundant mineral in
the body. It works with calcium at a 2:1 ratio of calcium/phosphorus.
Without this important ratio the body begins to lose one or more minerals
before they can be utilized. (Note: that’s one of the reasons some people
have tried other calcium and not gotten any results)
Calcium is also needed by the immune system and is critical to muscle
