Ginger
Ginger has been cultivated for thousands of years in China and India. It was written about in many ancient Chinese herbal texts and is an ingredient in as many as half of all Chinese herbal combinations.
The Chinese use it to buffer the effects of stronger herbs, and they drink it widely in tea. Ginger nutritionally supports the digestive process and has the ability to help settle occasional stomach upset.

Know Anybody Taking a COX2 Inhibitor for Pain?
COX2 inhibitor, Vioxx, has been pulled from the market after a study has shown it greatly increases the risk of heart attack and stroke in patients who took it. A COX2 inhibitor is a drug that blocks the enzyme cyclooxygenase 2.
Its the cyclooxygenase pathway of enzymes that makes inflammatory and pain products out of arachidonic acid. Arachidonic acid comes from animal fats, so if you block animal fats from being broken down, they have to go somewhere.
In this case, the fats are causing heart attack and stroke. Other studies are coming out saying that other COX2 inhibitors are causing the same dangerous side effect. Therefore, if you are taking a COX2 inhibitor for pain, then please stop, and tell others to as well.
Protease Plus Enzymes are another fantastic supplement recommended for pain. If taken on an empty stomach, enzymes go through your body breaking down all inflammatory products that cause pain.
Naturopathic doctors know that there is not just one treatment that will bring about a cure; or that disease is localized to an exact area, organ, or part of the body. We are whole beings. Everything we take into our bodies affects every cell, tissue, organ, system in the entire body.
Recently both Pfizer Inc. and Merck & Co., Inc., two pharmaceutical giants, announced that two of their top-selling drugs Celebrex and Vioxx, respectively, would be pulled from the market. Both companies announced that studies had shown an increased relative risk for confirmed cardiovascular events, such as heart attack and stroke. The Vioxx study revealed that patients suffered roughly twice the number of heart attacks and strokes than a control group not taking the drug.
Both Celebrex and Vioxx address COX2 inhibition, or in other words, inflammation. Natures Sunshine offers a safe way to address the emerging problem of inflammation and the havoc it wreaks in the body.
Recent studies have revealed that a reduction of inflammation will reduce incidences of health concerns such as heart disease, Alzheimers disease, diabetes and arthritis.

Health News For Pregnant Moms

Ginger Seems Safe for Easing Nausea in Pregnancy
New York (Reuters Health) – Ginger appears to help pregnant women who suffer from morning sickness, without side effects to the unborn child, according to a review of the medical literature.
In six studies that examined the effects of ginger in reducing nausea and vomiting in expecting mothers, ginger worked better than a placebo, or inactive drug, and as well as vitamin B6, which has been shown to improve nausea and vomiting in some pregnant women.
None of the women who took ginger had problems with their pregnancies, the authors report in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology.
“Ginger may be an effective treatment for nausea and vomiting in pregnancy,” write Dr. Francesca Borrelli of the University of Naples Frederico II in Italy and her colleagues.
However, they caution that these data are still “preliminary,” and more studies are needed to confirm that ginger is truly safe for pregnant women.
Up to 80 percent of pregnant women experience morning sickness during the first trimester of pregnancy. While there are many medications designed to ease morning sickness, the authors point out, women often shy away from drugs during pregnancy out of fear of side effects in their unborn children.
As a result, many women turn to alternative treatments, including vitamins, herbal products, homeopathic remedies and acupuncture. Among natural drugs, ginger has long been used to ease nausea, and there is some evidence that the botanical may relieve motion sickness and other types of queasiness.
Indeed, in the U.S., ginger has become one of the top 20 best-selling herbal supplements, with sales of $1.2 million in 2001 alone.

The basketball coach stormed into the university president’s office and demanded a raise right then and there. “Please,” protested the college President, “you already make more than the entire History department.”
“Yeah, maybe so, but you don’t know what I have to put up with,” the coach blustered. “Look.” He went out into the hall and grabbed a jock who was jogging down the hallway. “Run over to my office and see if I’m there,” he ordered. Twenty minutes later the jock returned, sweaty and out of breath. “You’re not there, sir,” he reported.
“Oh, I see what you mean,” conceded the President, scratching his head. “I would have phoned.”
