FEATURED HERBAL FORMULA

LBS II
Until this century, the human diet consisted mostly of unrefined,
unprocessed foods.
However, inventors have discovered a way to remove the outer part of grains
so their shelf life could be extended. Unfortunately, this removed much of
the plant’s fiber, the vital part which moves through the colon and promotes
healthy elimination.
Food now has a long shelf life – but is it nutritious?
Man still hasn’t succeeded in improving on nature. But Nature’s Sunshine has
combined some of nature’s most nourishing botanicals into one, easy-to-use
capsule that will help keep healthy eliminations a regular part of every
day.
LBS II is a top-selling Nature’s Sunshine combination for the intestinal
system. The key player in LBS II is cascara sagrada bark; the other herbs
provide balance and support.

AN ORANGE A DAY CAN KEEP SOME CANCERS AWAY, ACCORDING TO STUDY
CANBERRA (Reuters) – Eating an orange a day can keep certain cancers away,
according to a new Australian study.
The government’s key research group, the Commonwealth Scientific and
Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), found consuming citrus fruits
could reduce the risk of mouth, larynx and stomach cancers by up to 50
percent.
One extra serve of citrus a day — on top of the recommended five daily
servings of fruit and vegetables — could also reduce the risk of a stroke
by 19 percent.
“Citrus fruits…protect the body through their antioxidant properties and
by strengthening the immune system, inhibiting tumor growth and normalizing
tumor cells,” CSIRO researcher Katrine Baghurst said in a statement.
The Australian study, which was based on 48 international studies on the
health benefits of citrus fruits, also found “convincing evidence” that
citrus could reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases, obesity and
diabetes.
Baghurst said oranges have the highest level of antioxidants of all fruit,
with more than 170 different phytochemicals, including more than 60
flavonoids shown to have anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and blood clot
inhibiting properties.

SUPER GLA
Evening primrose oil, black currant oil, and borage oil contain gamma
linolenic acid (GLA), a fatty acid that the body converts to a hormone-like
substance called prostaglandin E1 (PGE1). PGE1 has anti-inflammatory
properties and may also act as a blood thinner and blood vessel dilator.
The anti-inflammatory properties these fatty acids have been studied in
double-blind research with people suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Some,
but not all, studies have reported that GLA supplementation provides
significant benefit to these people.
Fatty acids has been reported to lower cholesterol levels in people in some
research and, in other research, shown to improve skin itching, redness and
dryness associated with kidney dialysis.
Linoleic acid, a common fatty acid, found in nuts and seeds and most
vegetable oils, should theoretically be converted to PGE1, but many things
can interfere with this conversion, including disease, the aging process,
saturated fat, hydrogenated oils, blood sugar problems, and inadequate
vitamin C, magnesium, zinc, and B vitamins. Supplements that provide GLA
circumvent these conversion problems.
People with deficiencies would presumably benefit from supplemental GLA
intake from evening primrose oil, black currant oil, or borage oil. There
is evidence that alcoholics may be deficient in GLA, and a double-blind
study suggested that alcohol withdrawal may be facilitated with
supplementation.
GLA provides nutritional support to the female reproductive system,
particularly before menstruation when mild mood changes, breast tenderness,
cramps and swelling can occur.
Nature’s Sunshine’s Super GLA is a blend of evening primrose oil, black
currant oil, and borage oil. Read more about it here:

REVIEW.: GLUCOSAMINE, CHONDROITIN EFFECTIVE IN OSTEOARTHRITIS
A review of randomized, placebocontrolled clinical trials between 1980 and
2002 has concluded that glucosamine and chondroitin could be a safe and
effective way of treating knee osteoarthritis.
The team of Belgian and French researchers used Medline, Premedline, Embase,
Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Current Contents, BIOSIS Previews,
HealthSTAR, EBM Reviews, manual review of the literature and abstracts, and
direct contact with the authors as well as manufacturers of glucosamine and
chondroitin to perform the research. Their findings have been published in
the Archives of Internal Medicine.
“Our study demonstrates the structural efficacy of glucosamine and
indistinguishable symptomatic efficacies for both compounds,” the
researchers wrote. They found “a highly significant efficacy of glucosamine
on all outcomes.” Safety was found to be “excellent” for both compounds.
The researchers noted that the data on glucosamine and joint space narrowing
is sparse, and there is little data available on the structural effects of
chondroitin, so further studies are needed to determine an accurate dose for
the two supplements.
