A NOTE FROM RANDAL

Hello Everyone,

Sorry I am late by a day getting this to you. Yesterday I went down to the house we are selling and met with the inspector. I am happy to say we have passed and we now have a “Certificate of Occupancy.” If you have been with us much you know how much relief that gives us. The next step is to sell the house and then the journey will be nearly over.

Looks like ephedra is soon gone. Our company, Nature’s Sunshine, still has some limited stock. Seems like everyone is stocking up on it. When I started into herbs that was a big mainstay (wasn’t even used for weight loss initially). Sure seems hard to believe it’s soon gone. I do understand why it has been taken off and I am certain there will continue to be some great alternatives.

On another note, we have had phenomenal growth in our newsletters and we want to say thank you to all of you who have shared our ezines with your family and friends.

Until next time,
Randal

CLEANSING AND WEIGHT LOSS

Virtually all nutrients, including vitamins and minerals, enter the body
through small intestinal villi located on the interior wall of the
intestines. They act as a filtering system extracting nourishment from the
food we eat and filtering out impurities.

As with any filter the villi can become clogged with digestive by-products,
and when this happens their surface area is reduced and they cannot absorb
nutrients as effectively. With less nutrients getting into our system, we
begin to feel continually hungry. We consume food that is no longer
nourishing us, but our body cries out for more because it’s not getting the
nutrition it needs.

Nature’s Cleanse provides cleansing and weight loss in one product. This
two-week program works with the intestinal, glandular, digestive, and
circulatory systems. Read more and/or purchase here:

STUDY TELLS OVERWEIGHT ADULTS TO WALK
By LINDSEY TANNER, AP Medical Writer

Overweight adults who are not on a diet need only a small amount of exercise˜ the equivalent of a half-hour of brisk walking per day ˜ to prevent further weight gain, a study found.

Participants who got no exercise during the eight-month study gained an average of almost 2.5 pounds. But 73 percent of those who briskly walked 11 miles a week, or about 30 minutes a day, were able to maintain their weight
or even lose a few pounds.

The most noticeable weight loss occurred in those who did the most vigorous exercise ˜ jogging about 17 miles weekly. They lost an average of nearly eight pounds over eight months, and also shed more than 10 pounds of body fat and gained about 3 pounds of lean body mass on average.

The study was led by Duke University researchers and involved 120 overweight or mildly obese adults who were instructed not to diet during the research. The findings appear in Monday’s Archives of Internal Medicine (news – web sites).

DOCTORS: CURTAIL SOFT DRINKS IN SCHOOLS
By Amanda Gardner – HealthDay Reporter

The nation’s most influential group of child doctors recommends soft drink
sales in schools be severely restricted.

A policy statement from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says that sweetened drinks — including fruit drinks as well as soft drinks — are now the main source of added sugar in the daily diets of children. According to the pediatricians, between 56 percent and 85 percent of children in school consume at least one soft drink daily.

The statement appears in the January issue of the academy’s publication,
Pediatrics.

Over the past 20 years, consumption of soft drinks has surged by 300 percent, while sizes have grown from 6.5 ounces in the 1950s to 20 ounces in the late 1990s. Each 12-ounce serving of a carbonated, sweetened soda has 150 calories and the equivalent of 10 teaspoons of sugar and has been associated with a 60 percent increase in the risk of obesity.

DRY WINTER SKIN?

Essential fatty acids are crucial for life and well-being and heart health. The most obvious sign of a deficiency is wintertime dry skin. Some doctors says the deficiency of essential fatty acids (EFAs) is epidemic. The sources are simply not consumed in the average diet.

NACHO CHEESELESS SAUCE

From The Teen’s Vegetarian Cookbook

You’d swear this stuff was made from cheese. Serve with tortilla chips.

* 12 ounce package soft or silken tofu
* 1/2 cup bottled salsa
* 1 /4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
* 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
* 1 to 2 Tablespoons nutritional yeast (optional, but gives a cheeselike
flavor; if you don’t have it, add a little lemon juice or Dijon mustard)
* 1/4 cup water mixed with 1 Tablespoon cornstarch
* 1 Tablespoon vegetable oil

1. In a blender, puree tofu, salsa, salt, turmeric, and water-cornstarch mixture (and nutritional yeast, if using).

2. Heat oil in a skillet and make sure bottom of pan is coated. Pour in tofu mixture and spread to cover pan. Cook tofu mixture on low heat for about 5 minutes, without stirring.
