Walking Before Eating Offsets Fatty Meals

Just one long walk can protect your heart from fatty foods, making it easier to eat, drink, and be merry with minimal guilt. Recent studies show an association between fatty meals and an immediate decrease in blood vessel function. This dysfunction and inflammation are key to the development of atherosclerosis and heart disease, and more recent evidence has linked these findings to the effects of a fatty meal.

The researchers say that a single exercise session of moderate intensity can reduce these detrimental fats by as much as 20%- 25%.

But could prior exercise have an affect on what fat does to healthy vessels? That’s what researchers from Scotland’s University of Glasgow wanted to find out. They studied 20 obese and normal-weight men; all were healthy middle-aged nonsmokers.

Hearing loss does not have to be an expected result of aging. The primary reason Americans go deaf is their past exposure to noise. With every noise that is loud or long enough, some of the 16,000 or so tiny hairs inside each ear that allow sound waves to be heard are permanently damaged, causing a gradual hearing loss that becomes noticeable in middle age and beyond.

Building Immune System, Losing Weight

“I have been a frequent cold sufferer since my late teens. My immune system does not seem to be as strong as others. I am a flight attendant and come in contact with many people during my workday. Working in a confined area with re-circulated air picking up people’s garbage certainly didn’t help the situation. For six years of this career, I barely got over one cold before coming down with another. I had a new cold about every six weeks.

My step-mom introduced me to Para-Cleanse. I went on a strict 10-day program with the herbs and a diet that would help the herbs do their job better. The diet consisted of non-starchy vegetables, no sugar, milk, red meat or wheat products. I ate chicken and fish, vegetables and rice for 10 days. I used rice milk since the intent of the diet was to refrain from anything that would cause mucus or coat the intestines, making nutrients difficult to absorb.

Veggie Explosion
From Vegetarian Times

Serves: 4 to 6
Time to Prepare: 30 minutes or fewer

Simply sautéed vegetables tossed with a tangy tomato sauce make a flavorful and colorful entrée or side dish.

2 Tbs. vegetable oil
1 cup sliced, peeled carrots
1 cup small broccoli florets
1 cup sliced wild mushrooms such as cremini or portobello
1 cup diced eggplant
2 cups sliced cooked potatoes (about 3 medium)
2 ripe plum tomatoes, chopped

Sauce
1/4 cup tomato juice
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
2 Tbs. fresh lemon juice
1/2 cup dry white wine

In large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add carrots, broccoli, mushrooms and eggplant. Cook, stirring often, until crisp-tender, 8 to 10 minutes. Add potatoes and tomatoes; cook, stirring often, 3 minutes.

Meanwhile, in small bowl, mix sauce ingredients. Add sauce to skillet and simmer 5 minutes, until liquid has thickened slightly. Serve right away.

Per 1 1/2-cup serving: 197 Cal; 3g Prot; 7g Total Fat (0g Sat. Fat); 27g Carb; 0mg Chol; 222mg Sod; 4g Fiber
