Blessed Thistle
Blessed Thistle
Blessed Thistle (Cnicus benedictus) is commonly used to support the female reproductive system in a variety of ways. It contains sesquiterpene lactones, which support digestion, and lignans, which are known for their immune-boosting properties. This herb may help improve digestion and support liver function and has been traditionally used by Europeans for feminine health.
Topically, a poultice of blessed thistle is used to soothe injured skin. A poultice is usually a soft cloth that has been soaked in a medication, possibly heated, and applied to an aching or injured area of skin surface.
Blessed thistle has been used for centuries as a flavoring for Benedictine liqueur. It is approved by the German E Commission as an appetite enhancer and by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as flavoring.
